Who is vBooster better suited to?
Better suited to
- People worried one illness could be costly: the annual benefit limit is HK$8 million and basic benefits are paid in full; see the table for each plan's per-illness limit.
- People willing to take a higher deductible for a lower premium: the deductible options are in the table above, and a higher deductible means a lower premium.
- People concerned about cancer, dialysis and transplants: these treatments have extra cover of up to HK$2 million a policy year.
May not suit
- People often treated outside Asia: apart from psychiatric treatment and the Hong Kong intensive-care cash benefit, all of vCANsurance's benefits apply worldwide.
- People who want a semi-private room: vPrime Signature's eligible ward class for stays in Hong Kong, Macau or mainland China is a standard semi-private room, with an annual benefit limit of HK$15 million.
What to know before buying vBooster
- Less cover for non-emergency treatment outside Asia: For non-emergency treatment outside Asia, basic benefits are paid only up to the VHIS Standard Plan's benefit limits, and some enhanced benefits are not paid.
- A higher ward class reduces the payout: If you choose a room above a standard general ward, only a percentage of that day's eligible expenses counts (50% for a semi-private room, 25% for a private room, 12.5% above that), though the payout is never less than the VHIS Standard Plan's benefit schedule would pay. This does not apply when it is not your choice, such as a room shortage or a medical need.
- You pay the deductible first: With a deductible, you pay eligible expenses each policy year up to the deductible amount before the plan pays the rest.
- Premiums rise with age: Yearly premium with a HK$0 deductible: HK$8,260 at age 30, HK$9,936 at 40 and HK$24,516 at 60. The insurer may adjust standard premiums at renewal.
- The no-claim discount needs two claim-free years: Two policy years in a row with no claims cut the renewal premium by 10%; five years or more cut it by 15%.
- Disclose your health honestly: When you apply, answer the questions in the application honestly. A pre-existing condition you disclose may be given a specific exclusion.
This is general information only. It is not personal advice and is not an offer of insurance. Everyone's needs are different: before you buy, talk to your own licensed insurance intermediary or financial adviser. The insurer's policy terms set out the full cover and exclusions.
Why so many deductible options?
The deductible is a fixed amount the insured must pay out-of-pocket each policy year before the insurer reimburses anything. The insurer only pays the portion above the deductible. A single VHIS-certified plan can offer multiple deductible levels — a higher deductible means a lower premium; a lower deductible means faster payouts but a higher premium. Which level fits depends on your cash buffer, any MPF/employer medical top-up, and whether you intend to stay in a private or semi-private ward.
